Shazam!

Movin' On Up
Hopefully you’ll barely notice, but we’ve moved!

(As indicated by the flashpulp.com listed in your address bar.)

Gentleman and raconteur, Jim, of the Relic Radio Network, was very kind in offering some of his server power to host our little dog & pony show, and, after some fussing with the clockwork monstrosity that underpins our operation, today is the day we’ve finally made the jump.

In theory all old links should work just fine, and the skinner.fm/flashpulp.com addresses should be interchangeable. There are some areas of issue: the audio player isn’t working in all instances, and youtube videos simply didn’t make it at all. We’ll have all the holes patched before long, but obviously posts related to episodes take priority over my wide-ranging collection of kitten videos.

The move allows us many new freedoms, including the likely return of items like Audioboo-ographies, and the ability to not show ads on posts unless we’re the ones profiting from them, so I’m pretty excited.

Enjoy the new digs – kick the tires, check out last night’s episode, and let us know what you think.

End, Week, End.

RecordingSo, after last night’s FlashCast, and from the whining I’ve done this week, you may be aware that I’m a little more Doc Brown than Marty McFly at the moment.

I apologize, but we’ve been making our way through a once-in-a-lifetime level of ridiculousness, and it’s put the schedule off a bit.

Tomorrow – Saturday – we’ll be releasing FP#142, (Community, Part 2,) and Monday we’ll be posting the finale. Two one-parters will follow, and hopefully we’ll never have to deal with a disruption of this magnitude again, or, at least, until Kar’Wick cracks the earth and devours us all.

In the mean time, why not catch up on the history of Harm Carter?

Bird on a limb
I attempt to keep maintenance posts to a minimum, but my week of brutal kung-fu fighting continues, and I wanted to check in to suggest you take another shake at the Flash Pulp Wiki. It’s slowly filling out, but it could definitely use your help.

We’d certainly appreciate it.

Oh – while I’ve ensnared your fantastic eyes, might I also coax you drop us a line for this Sunday’s FlashCast? Text or mp3s can be sent to skinner@skinner.fm, or call our voicemail box at (206) 338-2792.

General Notice

Statue for Mike, the headless chicken.
In case it wasn’t obvious in the last FlashCast, my week is a little overwhelming, so please bear with me while the site devolves into the sort of random spurting that usually characterizes my weekend output.

On September 10, 1945, farmer Lloyd Olsen […] had his mother-in-law around for supper and was sent […] to bring back a chicken. Olsen chose a five-and-a-half-month-old cockerel named Mike. The axe missed the jugular vein, leaving one ear and most of the brain stem intact.

Despite Olsen’s botched handiwork, Mike was still able to balance on a perch and walk clumsily; he even attempted to preen and crow, although he could do neither. After the bird did not die, a surprised Mr. Olsen decided to continue to care permanently for Mike, feeding him a mixture of milk and water via an eyedropper; he was also fed small grains of corn.

[…]

Mike was on display to the public for an admission cost of 25 cents. At the height of his popularity, the chicken earned US$4,500 per month ($48,000 in 2010 dollars) and was valued at $10,000.

The Big News!

MicrophoneAs announced in last night’s FlashCast, we now have a Flash Pulp Wiki!

Obviously, it’s pretty empty at the moment, but I’ve begun work on a Mulligan article that can be used as a template, so feel free to poke around. If you have a favourite tidbit, please insert it, and I’ll certainly be fussing with it regularly, so keep an eye out.

Perpetual thanks go out to Jim, of The Relic Radio Network, for the space, bandwidth, and effort. If you aren’t already digging into his selections, might I recommend Orson Welles: On The Air, or The Horror?

Also, as a reminder, Flash Pulp will be released on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, this week. You can check out FC011 if you need further explanation!

Functional Friday: Texan Caesar

Texan Caesar, from Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/amzy_yams/3760127347/Today has been filled with a flurry of urgency, and, to top it off, I’ve been forced to abandon the content I’d intended for this afternoon’s post.

As such, I thought it would be a good time to do a little housekeeping.

Flash Pulp Stats

Episode Count: 139
(In 139 AD Marcus Aurelius was named Caesar.)

Total Run Time: 20.3 Hours
(Seven hours longer than Berlin Alexanderplatz.)

Average Run Time: 8.8 Minutes
(Unfortunately, 8.8 was the magnitude of earthquake that hit Japan today.)

MP3 girth: 1.37GB
(It would require 2019 3.5″ floppy disks to hold it all.)

Most Popular By Region: Texas
(According to wikipedia, the name Texas derives from táyshaʔ, a word in the Caddoan language which means “friends” or “allies”.)

There’s a small chance that tonight’s script will be rejected by my accomplices, (it deals in some ways with themes familiar to the “banned” episode of the show,) but I think the odds are slim.

Otherwise, things will be posted at the regular bat-time, on the regular bat-channel.

Where It's At

Lego Han in Carbonite
The script for FP #136 is ready to go, but, in the process of editing, our narrator went bad.

I hadn’t been paying attention to her best-before date, and I guess she was actually already a week past due. It’s not a huge problem – I pulled a fresh one from the clone freezer, but it had to sit on the counter to thaw overnight.

In the end it means that Jabber, Part 1, will be going up this evening, with part 2 presented tomorrow, and the next FlashCast on Sunday.

Might I entice you to sample our archives while you wait? How about a tale of a man and his dog – or possibly one regarding a tormented husband?

Burning Bloggery

It appears wordpress.com is on fire – which means, when you tried to load this post, it was either slow, or didn’t reach you at all.

I apologize, and Billy Winnipeg has been dispatched to WP headquarters to get those kiddy fiddlers straightened out.

In the meantime, here’s a promotional still from Blue Thunder, an old ’80s TV show. I feel it summarizes everything my children will ever need to know about the years between 1979 and 1990.

Scheduling

BlackhallTonight’s episode is going up Thursday night, and Friday’s is going up on Saturday. I apologize, but, between sleepless nights due to our pod-host, a delayed FlashCast, and the oddity of wrestling scripts that involve two different timelines, I need an extra day.

I’d rather put out a polished product than hit a deadline with a flop.

In the meantime, have you listened to last night’s FlashCast? Monday’s tale of fear? Are you ready for a Blackhall and Coffin crossover?

Last Minute Request

Update: The ladies have informed me that, while there are many days they would be willing to record – Christmas, Groundhog Day, St. Patrick’s, etc. – the night of the Academy Awards is not one of them.

I assume their rampant cussing every time Collin Firth doesn’t win something will have no effect on the rest of the week’s schedule.

To those who sent something in – I greatly appreciate it and we’ll use it all, happily, on Tuesday.

To those who didn’t – please do, the contact information remains below.

My trusty desk lampIf you’ve been sitting on the fence about getting a comment in for FlashCast, now’s the time. We have a few things lined up for tonight’s episode, but there’s always room for more delicious feedback!
