What's In a Name?
From wikipedia
Mungo Park (11 September 1771 – 1806) was a Scottish explorer of the African continent. He was credited as being the first Westerner to encounter the Niger River.
Mungo Park can be said to have accomplished a number of incredible feats in his lifetime, but none so great as carrying the name Mungo Park.
I was about to snarkily wonder if he was related to Mungo Jerry, who had a hit with “In the Summertime.” Then I found out that Mungo Jerry was the name of the group, not a single person. Here is a bit of the wikipedia entry:
According to Joseph Murrell’s The Book of Golden Discs (1978), ‘Mungomania’ was possibly the most startling and unpredicted pop phenomenon to hit Britain since The Beatles.
How can you not love “Mungomania,” and is there an innoculation for it?
For some reason I thought Mungo Jerry were responsible for the song Moulty, which is apparently absolutely wrong.
I do love the term Mungomania however.
I think the symptoms are demonstrated near the end of this Python clip:
“The wound! The wound!”
