A Laughing Matter

This is a series of late 19th century, or early 20th century, ad cards, used as an example in the wikipedia article on laughter.

I think this stands as proof that laughter has evolved over time, as it was apparently MIND-NUMBINGLY TERRIFYING in the Victorian era.
