The Great LOLCatsby
“I’ve been drunk for about a week now, and I thought it might sober me up to sit in a library.”
– F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
I don’t have time to do a full CNN Asks for today, but I did want to draw attention to this item:
I hope I’m not the only one who finds the idea of a 3D version of a tale about the shallowness of the quest for money, and the useless gaudiness of a passing era, both funny and tragic.
You didn’t mention this was Baz Luhrmann. Now I hope it fails.
“The power of Blu-ray is so great, you have to be a bit conscious about misusing it,” Luhrmann said. Has it been pinted out that the home video market, Blu-ray included, has been shrinking for years? But judging from that quote, I think he may feel that a “Blu-ray” is some form of cosmic radiation.
Oh my – but, to be fair, weren’t the Fantastic Four formed after the group were caught under a falling stack of un-purchased sets of the third season of Heroes?
I missed season one of heroes when it aired so I watched it on DVD. Of course, this was in the middle of season two so I then cauight up by watching the first half of season two on NBC’s website until I was up to the broadcast shows and was already unhappy with the way the show was going. Then season three came and I bailed out fast and never saw most of it. Sad how a show with such promise fell apart. Maybe if they didn’t use the same plot device over and over (vision of the future is bad, so they have to change the future) it would have been a bit more interesting, or if they all got together instead of one guy knowing another guy and another group of heroes not knowing the other four guys.
Fully agreed – it was a show with so much potential, and it was all squandered.
There’s actually a chart on wikipedia that demonstrates your point exactly: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/Heroes_U.S._viewers.svg
