The Old Switcheroo

The Murder PlagueI’m quite excited to continue our current Harm Carter three parter, (the opening having been Caretaking, Part 1,) but personal events – events that are best left unspoken of on the internet – have put us into a bit of a tizzy lately, and I feel like the next script needs another solid draft before I turn it loose on people.

Instead, tonight we’re going to be posting the next installment in our companion show, FlashCast, and episode #116 will be released tomorrow.

Expect a round up of our last Blackhall story, the presentation of some fantastic work by Wood of Highland & Wood, some discussion of Christmas on the internet, and quite a bit more.

Flash Pulp Scheduling

Flash PulpI had such beautiful plans in my heart – a week off of work-makes-food to allow me to finally build a buffer and get ahead.

Then this happened (well, figuratively):

While I’m actually beginning to feel better, our dearest Jessica May, audio producer extraordinaire, is now down with the same bug, and I have a sneaking suspicion that Opop may be next.

So, here’s the plan: blogging resumes as normal from here on out, but Flash Pulp and FlashCast will begin afresh next week. I’m going to pound the word-keys furiously in the meantime, and hopefully I’ll have magic to unveil come Monday.

(I actually suggested dragging the mic to Jessica’s sick bed, to do an episode of FlashCast, but she shook a fist at me and cursed me with something that was either a long dead language or a throat brimming with phlegm.)

We appreciate your patience in this time of zombification.

Quick Change

My brain has slowly but surely come back online. This has been one of those illnesses you only encounter a few times in your life – the kind of sick that makes it a signpost in your chronology. This has been the type of desperate expulsion of bodily fluids that you stamp a year on: The Spanish Black Plague Influenza of 2010.

By the way – did you know that James Cagney got his start as a female impersonator?

Born to a lower class family in 1899, young Jimmy would take on a host of odd jobs to help make ends meet, including his first foray into performing, just after WWI, when he worked as a female impersonator. – Things And Other Stuff

Friday's Episode

My writing notebookWell, I’m ambulating a little more freely around the house now, largely carried on a cloud of high-powered medicine.

In theory this means that we’ll be able to post Friday’s episode tonight, but I’m not so sure about the FlashCast; my throat sounds like a suped-up Honda Civic drowning in a swamp.

Side note
One possible use for a bad case of the cold-sweats: get a long sheet of vinyl and, blam, you’re a DIY Slip ‘N Slide.

Notes From My Sick Bed

It’s like I got a vacation to the tropics for Christmas, but the hot temperatures are all internal and the vomiting comes without drinking.

I was wondering if having a high fever on Christmas day was going to lead me into some Dickens-style ghostly visitations, but instead all I was haunted by was Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded”. (I hate that song.)

The scheduled shows are delayed till tomorrow – I apologize.

Scheduling

Many to collectTaken today, at the center of the consumer madness.

Tonight’s Flash Pulp will be posted on Sunday, as the whole crew is down with a bad case of the egg nog. To make up for our poor work ethic, on this, the most Victorian of holidays, we’ll also be releasing FlashCast 003 on the same evening.

Till then, blogging will be incidental at best, but know that we love you.

In the mean time, to fill your pulpy needs, why not browse the archive (or on iTunes), or check out our yulerelated episodes?

I myself am about to depart to undertake the annual viewing of MST3k’s Santa Claus Conquers The Martians.

Undead Update

Zombies

As I promised earlier in the week, I set myself to updating the last few Ruby stories, so that their hand-written notes were in place.

I owe a big thanks to Opop for playing catch up, as here they are:

  • Shuffle – Ruby departs from the home of Melody Hannikainen, although not entirely empty handed.
  • Crash – Ruby relates a short tale of love and loss.
  • Jingle – Ruby finds herself facing down depression only to discover the holiday spirit amongst the undead.

Seasonal Maintenance

Larry Drake as Killer Santa Claus from Tales From The Crypt Ruby’s journal entries should be all caught up on by the end of the week; the unfortunate truth is, more folks download the audio version via iTunes, than come to the site looking for the individual episode entries, so we have to prioritize a bit.

FlashCast 003 will hopefully go up tonight, but it depends on how agreeable our audio producer is feeling, given her holiday scheduling. I was holding off, as some of our British friends were promising an mp3-based rant against televised talent-shows, but, understandably, Christmas has interceded.

Still, as such, I can only go with my original postulation, that the Brits loves them some X-Factor.

Programming Notes

Terror Of The Gingerbread MenI apologize that the “This Week” post hasn’t been updated to reflect the new content – I’m having some Photoshop issues that should be resolved by tomorrow. In the meantime you can find all the Flash Pulp your heart desires within the sidebar on the right side of the http://skinner.fm front-page.

I also wanted to mention, however, that content is likely to get a little more weekend-style for the holidays*. Expect more interjections from my twitter-feed, and an upswing in instagram photography, with commentary.

Flash Pulp should be up as usual, and tonight we’ll be recording the second episode of FlashCast.

Good News & Bad News

The good news is that friend of the site, Ray, has posted up the first in his series of Walker Journals!

Click through, subscribe, and give the man encouragement for his hard work.

The bad news is that FlashCast 02 is being delayed due to holiday-related commitments. Hopefully we’ll be able to record it after tomorrow’s Flash Pulp, but, if not, it may have to wait till Tuesday.
