When in Rome

Sort of an odd fact, but: did you know that after being seriously pummeled by Hannibal, the Romans not only refused to negotiate, they outlawed the use of the word peace?

So firm were these measures that the word “peace” was prohibited, mourning was limited to only thirty days, and public tears were prohibited even to women. – wikipedia

I’m looking at you, Iraq War Protesters* (and Private Ryan’s Mom).

*This isn’t to imply I think people should be silent, it’s to point out that, despite modern worship, the Romans were basically barbarians.

Dread Pirate Roberts

Dread Pirate Roberts

Am I wrong in assuming that The Dread Pirate Roberts, (and thus, Westley) has killed quite a number of people?

Is there some loophole I missed, or do we just sort of play down that aspect of the character?

(I realize you could get away with things like that back then, but it still seems like a pretty brutal character point for a kid’s movie.)

MSNBC OF THE DEAD

nit pickI don’t mean to be that guy, MSNBC, but regarding Yankee Stadium and the halls of the dead, maybe you want a comparative preposition in there.

That isn’t to say there aren’t holes in my own grammar, but that’s a pretty brutal possibility you’re presenting.

Perhaps you’ve been to a post-apocalyptic future where Yankee Stadium is used as a massive tomb for a well-loved warrior king; either get your tenses right or throw a “like” in there.

Eritrea, Eritrea, Eritrea, Eritrea, we love you, Amen.

Eritrea

Eritrea, officially the State of Eritrea, is a country in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Sudan in the west, Ethiopia in the south, and Djibouti in the southeast. – wikipedia

Fine, but so what?

Well – Eritrea’s TLD, (.ca to us Canadians or .jp for Japan, etc,) is .er! I can’t find anywhere to register a Eritrea domain, but this seems like a huge opportunity for their country.

Who wouldn’t want lam.er, runn.er, fast.er, etc?
